Brendon Hemily is an independent consultant with more than 35 years of experience of working with the transit industry in both Canada and the U.S.A. specializing in transit policy, planning, management, and technology issues. Brendon has special expertise and knowledge regarding North American experience with the strategic use of technology in transit, best practices and innovative transit service concepts, transit performance and service quality to improve customer experience.
Brendon Hemily est consultant indépendant avec plus de 35 ans d’expérience, acquise notamment dans des projets de transport collectif au Canada, ainsi qu’aux États-Unis. Expert en politiques, planification, gestion et technologie du transport collectif, ses préoccupations portent en particulier sur l’utilisation stratégique de la technologie, et les questions des meilleures pratiques et de l’innovation dans ce secteur afin d’assurer un service de qualité à la clientèle et pour améliorer la performance.
Prior to 2000, he worked 15 years for the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA), serving as CUTA’s Manager of Research and Technical Services, where he was responsible for all technical activities and technical assistance provided by CUTA to the Canadian transit industry. Working closely with transit systems of different sizes from across Canada, his responsibilities included managing several national research projects on innovative management and planning practices and the use of technology.
Brendon has a Ph.D. in Transportation and a M.S. in Civil Engineering, both from M.I.T., and a B.A. in Economics from Columbia University. He also obtained a Certificat en études politiques de l’Institut d’études politiques (SciencesPo) in Paris, France. He is active in the Transportation Research Board (TRB) where he chairs the Public Transportation Group, which has 13 committees, and is past Chair and Emeritus Member of the TRB Standing Committee on Public Transportation Planning and Development. He also chairs the Advanced Public Transit Systems (APTS) Technical Committee of ITS Canada.
Avant l’an 2000, il a travaillé 15 ans pour l’Association canadienne du transport urbain (ACTU), où il était directeur de la recherche et des services techniques. Responsable de toutes les activités techniques, il gérait les programmes nationaux de statistiques et les projets de recherche, et fournissait une assistance technique aux systèmes de transport en commun de différentes tailles à travers le Canada.
Brendon détient un Ph.D. en transport et une maîtrise en génie civil, tous deux du Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), ainsi qu’un B.A en économie de Columbia University. Il détient aussi un certificat d’études politiques de l’institut d’études politiques de Paris (SciencesPo) en France. Il est actif au sein du Transportation Research Board (TRB) ou il est président du groupe de transport public (avec 13 comités) et est ancien président et membre émérite du comité sur la planification et le développement du transport public. Il est aussi président du comité technique sur les systèmes avancés de transport collectif de STI Canada.
